From March 3 to 6, at the BATIMAT RUSSIA exhibition, for the first time within the HoReCa Design Area exposition (Hotel, Residence, Café), Elena Albatova, designer, expert on Brazilian modernism, will present her stand called ‘Vo-o-Brasiliya’ (stand 8-223), and on March 4 at 11.50 she will hold a master class on the topic: “Modern Brazilian Design as a Legacy of the Era of Brazilian Modernism”.
“Modern Brazilian design is a result of the vivid and talented imagination, reminiscent of the country Vo-o-Braziliya from the famous children’s poem. One of the founders of Brazilian modernism, Oscar Niemeyer, said: “Surprise is the key to art.”
The background for the lounge area is the magical forest of the Brazilian artist Tarsila do Amaral. And the UP-5 or DONNA armchair by the Italian designer Gaetano Pesce invites you to a pristine embrace to imagine yourself on the open terrace overlooking the ocean.
Brazilian design is ‘cultural cannibalism’, which is fueled (‘devoured’) by the cultures of the European continent, without neglecting African-American and Native American sources.”

“It is very difficult to surprise a Russian designer! He is aware of all the design innovations, participates in international exhibitions, travels a lot. But as practice has shown, – designer Elena Albatova says, – the story of Brazilian modernism and contemporary design of this country for many of my colleagues is terra incognita! Although recently interest in the work of Brazilian modernists has incredibly increased around the world!
I was fortunate enough to know Brazil not only as a country where “there are a lot of wild monkeys”, carnival and football, but also as the birthplace of magnificent product design of the midcentury era. The tradition of merging European craft and the authenticity of the region has given a great impetus to the development of modern Brazilian design.
During my trips to this country, I visually and tactfully investigated the design icons of Brazilian modernism, met with talented designers, gallery owners, and visited the CASACOR exhibition of interior design several times.
We welcome everyone at the BATIMAT RUSSIA exhibition and invite you to Elena Albatova’s lecture where she will be happy to share her impressions of Brazil and Brazilian design with you!
