Nastya will talk about architectural strategies of the 20th century – how they live in modern public spaces and what difficulties they face now, in an era of total security and commerce. People spend more than 90% of their time in buildings, and this is a big challenge for modern architects and designers, as people increasingly depend on spaces. Airports cluttered with advertising, railway stations with fences and siding booths – the environment requires attention and design not only at the beginning, at the stage of creation. On the one hand, the architecture turns into a product based on economy and simplification of production, which standardizes behavior in space. On the other hand, the culture of attraction turns a building into a spectacle, and the visitor becomes a passive observer and consumer. And although there are no definite recipes for overcoming the current ‘difficulties and contradictions’, we can single out successful activity areas.
Nastya Kolchina is an architect of public spaces and the founder of Leatelier.Business. In her projects, Nastya explores the influence of space on people and their behavior, and considers architecture and design a way to convey meanings.
