Working on interiors, the designer Yana Svetlova always tried to make walls look unique. She is convinced that only the beauty of handwork can compete with the grace of nature. The founder of Yana Svetlova Wallcoverings brand and the real innovator in fashionable finishing materials told BATIMAT RUSSIA about her collections with imitation of natural materials, major interior trends and what to expect from the construction and interior exhibition, which will traditionally take place at the Crocus Expo IEC from 12 to 15 March 2019.
Your wallpapers are distinctive for the imitation of natural materials. Why is your wallpaper so popular?
Our designs with imitation of natural stone are indeed in great demand among our customers. We have put our heart and creative skills into them, so that the walls of our customers looked unique.
Each stone in the mosaic is a separate picture created by an artist. That is, our stone panels are not just a set of photographs of a stone – they are a true painting. That is why the collection is called “The Art of Imitation” – because each wallpaper design has got through painter’s brush. I suppose this unique and profound approach attracts our customers.
Large-scale art panels look realistic. What did it take to create an authenticity effect?
For example, when we were creating “Malachite” art panel, we invented our know-how in working with oil paints to imitate stone and enamel. Therefore, our mosaic art panels look luxurious and elegant. There are more than 300 unique tiles, each drawn by hand.
For watercolor models, we created a lot of watercolor drawings, chose the best ones and adapted them for interior design. Each drawing was inspired by nature: water, fog, clouds and colors. Large dimensions of reports, that sometimes reach three meters, create the effect of hand-painted walls.
Is there an extension to your amazing wallpaper? What can they be assembled with?
We created a palette of colors, where each wallpaper design matches a shade of companion in Little Green paint. We are pleased to see our customers think in a novel way: they use our wallpaper not only for walls, but also for decorating furniture and even kitchen aprons, placing wallpaper under plexiglass.
One of the main interior trends of today is the tropical style. How do you interpret it?
Our collections are largely inspired by nature, you can find many designs in herbal, mint or malachite.
What can you add to your interior to keep up with modern trends?
The trendy interior is a very conventional concept, because creating a space, we create it for many years to come. Therefore, for me it is very important to use sensations that are always in fashion: a feeling of comfort, softness of combinations, colors and textures, a feeling of depth of thought embedded in the interior.
It is this concept of feelings and mood that I’m going to show at the BATIMAT exhibition in March 2019 on my personal stand. I will try to visually discover the concepts of luxury, comfort, impressions, and show them through various decorative surfaces. Of course, I would like to emphasize the walls and wallpaper design. All items on the stand will be uniquely designed to immerse visitors into the atmosphere of true design.
