When the interior designer Anna Erman was invited to take part in BATIMAT RUSSIA 2019 exhibition within the Integrated Solutions section with the Funny Room of a Teenager, she immediately accepted this offer. As it turned out, this theme matters a good deal to her now. “I remembered the phrase about ‘the peas against the wall’ (translator’s note: ‘like throwing peas against the wall’ – the idiom meaning that you can’t get through to someone or make them listen to you, analogue in English – ‘like talking to a brick wall’). I wanted to talk about the complex feeling of the world, to convey my personal view on the uneasy relationships between children and parents.”
The expression ‘like peas against the wall’ means that sometimes teenagers, and adults as well, cannot explain something, convey a thought, words are not perceived, but bounce off like peas, a person is associated with the wall, and words – with peas.
“Every adult, looking back and remembering his adolescence, is perplexed by many memories of his behavior and how his parents went through this period. And then he himself becomes a parent, and hopes that it will not happen to him, that his child is gentle, obedient. Not a bit of it, – Anna Erman says. – When I talk with my children now (they are thirteen), every time the phrase lingers in my mind: ‘Well, just like peas against the wall!’ You can’t establish your parental rules or make a certain design in the room of a teenager. It has the only owner. And the first thing he demands is solitude. Then you can only try to guess how the scenery will change. However, I noticed that most teenagers are fascinated with disco balls, garlands, drawings on the wall, of course, the most advanced music (which makes the adults’ hair stand on end) and the spirit of chaos.
For me BATIMAT RUSSIA is a place where you can create a bright and conceptual interior design within four days. I valued an opportunity to try my hand, get out of the comfort zone and implement my ideas. It is an excellent way to test yourself and a great venue to meet people and establish new contacts”.
