At the BATIMAT RUSSIA 2019 exhibition from March 12 to March 15, the product designer Ekaterina Krotenko will present handmade glass vases with wood texture at the PRODUCT DESIGN collective stand within the Integrated Solutions exposition.
The Out of Fire collection gives a new breath to the technique of imprinting tree in glass, and reveals the free character of interaction of the three elements: wood, glass and fire. When the liquefied mass of glass is blown into a wooden form, the tree burns, thereby capturing its fleeting structure at this moment in glass. The material is endowed with a certain freedom, which is expressed in the organic and unique form, as in natural flora. The wood texture acts not only as a decorative solution with unique detailing, but also surprises with tactile amenity.
Although the technique of giving glass the texture of burnt wood is inspired by the objects of the Finnish designer Timo Sarpaneva from the 1960s collection, this collection shows modern aesthetics and cultural synthesis in an intuitive experimental process of creating art glass, paired with blackened wooden elements that make up the composition of asymmetrical abstract forms. In general, this unique collection conveys aesthetic metamorphosis in motion over time.
The project was presented twice at exhibitions in Helsinki, including the Design Week'18 at the Design Museum, and won the first place in Design Product nomination of the Designed and Made in Russia competition held by the All-Russian Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art in Moscow, as well as the first place in the Product Design nomination of ADD awards'18. www.ekaterina-krotenko.me
