The HoReCa Workshop in Milan (Project, Design & Marketing) on restaurant and hotel design is a program for architects and designers as presented by Italian practitioners with many years of experience.
The organizers from Milano Business School begin every new workshop with a survey: how did the workshop members learn about the Milan intensive course? And this is not just idle curiosity – from one course to another the most popular answers are: my friends told me, my colleagues visited the event, the architects I know recommended. That is, today, with a huge flow of information and a number of different training courses, word of mouth remains the most credible information channel. And such positive statistics are good news for the small team of organizers.
What are the different things you can get at the HoReCa Workshop? For 5 days, the flow of valuable professional information ’pours’ over the students – 40 hours of extremely useful lectures of designers with very different individual experience and work approach. At the same time, the lectures are more like a dialogue of professional colleagues, since it is a common practice to interrupt speakers with questions here, and students always have a lot of them.
Another important advantage of the course, which makes it unique in Europe, is that it is taught in Russian with high-quality consecutive translation by Italian specialists with proficient architectural vocabulary, and this gives maximum benefit from information and much greater interactivity in the audience.
“This is not a course of some rigid format, our speakers renew their lectures, enrich them with their new completed objects, the course director Nicola Ticozzi says. But if we talk about lighting or materials, here the very evolution of the offering stimulates constant extension and progress of the program. We are very pleased with the results of last year, which became a year of records both in respect to the number of students in each of the three courses, and geography – today including 21 countries of the world. We really hope to get the same results in April, during the course, which is traditionally held shortly before the Milano Design Week. The admission is already underway. Among the students there is always a VIP participant, who receives personal advice from one of our specialists on a specific project. This recent innovation appealed to everyone, and we are thinking about expanding the scope of services provided by the organizers in order to give more benefits to the students who come to us. By the way, last year we introduced the new pricing policy with three service packages – Standard, Premium and VIP, which provided an opportunity for a more accurate, precise response to the requests of our target audience.”
It’s better to learn what the participants themselves told about the course in their responses: “Absolutely unique course!”, “I obtained everything I wanted on the course, thank you very much!”, “It's great when so many years of experience of so many famous and authoritative architects can be adopted in 5 days”, “It was super, you are unequaled today!“, “Unforgettable creative meetings and many new ideas!”, “The course is awesome. So much information! Great lecturers, everything is well-organized!”, “Succinct, accessible, useful, inspiring, cool!”, “A lot of new information that I’ll definitely use in my professional activities”, “Super, I liked everything. Especially the lecture about light”, “These courses met all my expectations! Even more!”, “Very interesting and intense courses. In five days I learned more than in three years at the university”, “The HoReCa course made me see my mistakes in projects”, “Infinite gratitude for the opportunity to acquire such knowledge”, “I am amazed at such a large-scale approach to training with the participation of practicing bureaus with world-class projects”, “The value of the course is many times higher than its price!”, “Unforgettable 5 days in Milan”.
Design is a country, and Milan is its capital. That was the slogan of one of the famous furniture fairs. And this is really so: Milan is the world capital of design, therefore immersion into its atmosphere during the courses is very important, as the new HoReCa formats are born and tested here. The course members, in addition to theory, have the opportunity to personally visit the most remarkable hotels, restaurants and cafes. We (the organizers) issue a special list of design locations of the city on the first day of classes, conveniently divided by typology and location,” Ticozzi summed up.
The organizers hope that despite the crisis, the specialists will not stop coming to Milan, since the HoReCa Workshop program really helps participants to be more competitive in a very demanding project market. And while the ‘Made in Italy’ design continues to act as a trend setter with interesting examples, including in the contract sector, the program will provide students with practical and relevant knowledge. The spring course on April 4–8, which is currently open for application, is exceptionally well suited for those who want to combine a visit to the well-known Furniture Salon with a progress in their professional level.
