LASSELSBERGER Group, one of the leaders in ceramic tiles industry, and the British Higher School of Art and Design have summarized results of the competition on designing new collection of tiles. The competition was held among students of “Interior Design. Basic course” programme.
The task was to develop a design of bathroom tiles collection in accordance with technical requirements and to identify preferences of the target audience. Top ten projects were put into trial production. The winners were selected from test samples. There were two of them: Polina Tsvetkova with Pink Geometry and Elena Zaritskaya with Geometry of Color.
Designers used one of the main trends in 2018 – the geometry. Polina Tsvetkova combined the geometry with trendy dusty-pink shade. As the designer says, “the femininity of powder pink is balanced by the brutality of light and dark gray tones acting as neutral background, while pink makes a small accent and adds freshness to any room, “like a blush on the cheeks.” Elena Zaritskaya, meanwhile, believes that “the polychrome and geometricity of her collection create three-dimensionality, transforming the process of design into creative and exciting action. The fashionable pastel palette of tiles, combined with rich and modern color range of decor, will visually expand the space, filling it with light and air.”
In the near future, LASSELSBERGER will sign agreements with the designers. They will continue to refine the developed collections for further testing and possible commercializing (with positive focus group responses).

Vitaly Malenko, Marketing Director, LASSELSBERGER:
“Our collections are usually created by staff designers who study in Russia and abroad, visit international European exhibitions, they are aware of global trends and follow them. However, we understand that fashion and taste in our country are created by young innovators, practicing Russian designers who have their own progressive view and vision of style. And the British Higher School of Art and Design is the right place for such young specialists. This is our first experience of cooperation. For us it was an experiment, and I believe that it was a success.”

Elena Babkina, coordinator of “Interior Design. Basic Course”, the British Higher School of Art and Design:
“Such projects as Designer’s Collection of Tiles play a very important role in educational process of the British Higher School of Art and Design. Working with production, students start to view the task more purposefully, learn to understand the limitations that are always present in real work. It’s not enough to express your vision of style, design, trends, you have to “strike” into the concept, request and vision of the customer. This becomes an excellent training for professional growth. Our winners – Elena Zaritskaya and Polina Tsvetkova – have done everything possible to get their ceramic tiles launched into serial production on LASSELSBERGER factory.”
